Did you know that every time you pre-rinse your dishes before putting them in the dishwasher you use up to 20 gallons of water? In the US, this equates to 150 billion gallons of water waste every year. In response, Finish US has joined forces with National Geographic to launch a new campaign: Skip the Rinse!
The problem
- Water shortages are predicted, with supplies set to reduce by one third within the next 50 years
- And yet, consumers are unaware that pre-rinsing dishes wastes water when they can get clean dishes with Finish Quantum
Although 70% of the Earth’s service is covered by water, only two per cent is accessible. This limited water supply needs protecting.
The solution
Finish’s Skip the Rinse campaign asks consumers to ‘take the pledge’, to stop pre-rinsing their dishes. For every pledge taken, Finish will contribute $1 to The Nature Conservancy, which works to ‘conserve the lands and water on which all life depends’.
What’s next?
This is just the beginning.
Finish’s partnership with National Geographic has helped inform consumers on why water wastage is a problem and how we can all make small changes in our daily lives to help address the issue. You can find out more over on National Geographic’s website.
A new documentary on the campaign will also be premiered on the National Geographic channel in the coming months.
So far, the campaign has managed to save over 5,600,000 gallons of water – and counting! Join the movement, take the pledge and #SkipTheRinse.
