Curiosity, purpose, and scientific rigor have defined Carissa Hosomi’s career at Reckitt. Since joining us as a Research Assistant, she’s grown into a Senior Associate, leading global projects at our lab in Montvale, New Jersey. “I love exploring fascinating scientific questions here. Like, just how many germs can live on a towel? And what if the answer could make the world healthier?”
Carissa’s team plays a critical role in product development, from developing new testing methods to ensuring compliance. “We’re responsible for making sure our products are safe, effective, and scientifically sound. And if no standard methods exist, we create them.”
But it’s not just about what happens in the lab. Back in 2019, Carissa joined Reckitt’s Global Volunteer Challenge in Tanzania, conducting hygiene research in rural communities. “It broadened my global perspective and deepened my commitment to our mission. I think about that time with every product we test.”
It’s been a personal journey for Carissa too. “I struggled with imposter syndrome early on. I didn’t feel ‘good enough’ and hesitated to make decisions. But Reckitt helped me build confidence. A turning point came when I realised people were coming to me for guidance. That helped me understand I had a role as a leader.”
Now, as a people manager, Carissa draws on that experience to mentor others. “I want my team to feel supported and empowered. I trust them to make decisions, and I’m always here when they need me.”
This is why Carissa’s so passionate about introducing STEM to young people. “I mentor students through our internship and externship programs every year. We’ve even partnered with a technical school to offer hands-on lab experience. Some now work at Reckitt. Watching them thrive has been one of the most fulfilling parts of my career.”
For Carissa, it all comes back to purpose.
Every product we test is a chance to make the world cleaner and healthier. That’s what drives me.
